“We do not learn from
experience...we learn from reflecting on experience.”
― John Dewey
Why am I always enthused about Educational technology? I asked myself. Well as soon as I accepted and called myself a “21st century teacher”, I could not do better than willing to educate myself to be competent enough to face the reality of my Digital Native students. At the beginning of the course I thought of it as a waste of time and money because many of the information were already delivered in the previous educational technology courses. However, at the end of this course I realized how crucial it was for my development. It took me from the theoretical steps to the higher practical ones and made all the possible adjustment by equipping me with various web 2.0 tools such as the Schoology, Voki, Webquest, Wiki and podOmatic which facilitate me to adapt to my new world.
Honestly, it was fun and also stressful. This journey was made possible through hard work and constant interaction with the technological tools/internet. The ISTE (international society for technology in education) was my guide. It contains standards for teachers and students that will enhance the teaching and learning process. It helps to provide good classroom management in terms of structure and the use of technological tools and obliges us to use the learners-centered approach as well as catering to the needs of our learners by using and integrating suitable resources and tools.
In addition, the Educational Technology course helped me to build a higher self-confidence. Through schoology, I was required every week to give feedback, comment on others work and participate in online discussion. The most difficult part about this was the part where I had to post my work online. These activities also promote competency as I had to ensure that the content, structure, grammar and orthography of my work are suitable for the public. They basically helped me to know how it feels to be part of the actual world.
